Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. was recently named “Most Supportive California Retail Company” by Yellow Ribbon America. Yellow Ribbon America is a Southern California nonprofit that works to support military men and women and their families by assisting them in locating community services and supporting them through the holidays.

During the 2008 holiday season, 15 Walmart stores in Southern California served as drop-off locations for Yellow Ribbon America, collecting on behalf of our customers more than 357,000 items such as DVDs, diapers, bicycles and toys that were then distributed to local military members, veterans and their families, as well as shipped to local troops serving overseas.

As part of this honor, Wal-Mart was recognized by members of the California State Assembly during a ceremony at the State Capitol. Wal-Mart received a resolution from the California Assembly authored by Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R - Irvine) commending our efforts and a recognition certificate from Yellow Ribbon America.
