Wal-Mart expansion beneficial
October 8, 2009

Most of the letters to the editor that I have read about the Wal-Mart expansion seem to highlight more cars in the parking lot, which means it will create a handicap that we would have to walk a greater distance to get into the store. The next biggest complaint is it would cause way too people from out of town filling our roads with undo wear and tear leading to needed additional repairs.
The different slant that I looked at was talking to some of the teachers in our schools within walking distance and finding out many of the children come to school without eating breakfast, which is not a good way to start their day. This is caused because we have quite a population of low-income families that live a short distance from Wal-Mart. Many of these families don’t even own automobiles so they walk wherever they go.
I’ve never been in a super Wal-Mart, but from what I’ve been led to believe, the prices of their food products are much lower than our normal grocery stores. This would be great for these low-income families.
I think what I’m trying to say is, I can see far more good to many of the families that live within walking distance, and I would rather be concerned for them than I would worry about walking a little further from my car in the parking lot to get into Wal-Mart.
