It would be interesting to see the calculations and data on the influx of outsiders adding "(possibly 4,000 extra road trips a day)" to the Poway traffic loading if the Wal-Mart expansion is approved. It appears from Adriane Levy-Corbin’s comments that only people who live in the city limits of Poway are welcome. Consider how much tax revenue that the “influx of outsiders” will bring to the city of Poway in this tight financial time.

The correlation between the proposed Wal-Mart expansion and “an increase in DUIs” is at best tenuous. Certainly noise and light pollution will be addressed in the permitting process. And “lowered property values for the surrounding homes” is an interesting statement. The residential structures interfacing with the Wal-Mart property are apartments.

It would seem a prudent use of scarce funds, food stamps, etc. for families to make their purchases at an outlet that offers the most for the least cost. Of course the distance from Wal-Mart to other grocery stores isn’t much further, but when every cent counts, people tend to try obtaining the maximum quantity for the minimum expenditure.

Perhaps the “No Wal-Mart Expansion Citizen’s Group” is moving forward to help children get food? That would be a noble objective indeed.
